Young Men of
Distinction Program

The Young Men of Distinction Program (formerly known as the Alpha Lites Program) aims to empower African-American male students to achieve academic excellence while cultivating strong character, leadership, and critical thinking skills. Participants will have the opportunity to join meetings and activities, guided by dedicated Young Men of Distinction Advisors (members of the Mu Mu Lambda Chapter), with additional support from the Educational Activities Committee. Meetings will be held regularly, throughout the academic year. The program also offers opportunities for field trips and various enrichment activities designed to broaden students' horizons and foster personal growth. This program is designed for male youth in grades 6th through 12th. We are currently based at Elmhurst University.

The Young Men of DISTINCTION

Program will focus
on four aims:

Academic Achievement: To support students in reaching and maintaining high academic standards, encouraging them to set and achieve educational goals that pave the way for future success.

Leadership Development: To foster leadership skills by providing opportunities for students to take on leadership roles, learn decision-making strategies, and develop a sense of responsibility and initiative.

Character Building and Personal Growth: To promote values such as integrity, perseverance, and empathy, enabling students to develop strong character and navigate personal and social challenges with confidence.

Community Engagement and Citizenship: To encourage active participation in community service and civic activities, helping students build a sense of responsibility and commitment to positive change in their communities.

These aims ensure a comprehensive approach that nurtures both personal and academic growth while empowering young men to make a meaningful impact.
